The decrease of public interaction in urban space is not necessarily due to the use of smartphones. At least this can't be the only explanation of a phenomenon that has also to do with less "parrochial" and more diverse communities, with a larger fluctuating population, and to an increasingly accelerated way of life. "Micro meetings" or similar initiatives are anyway a great idea for promoting intergenerational interaction precisely in those places where mutual support not always can be found within the family.
